Malaysia Airlines A380 takes off
The first Malaysia Airlines A380 has taken off on revenue service on the carrier’s Kuala Lumpur - London Heathrow route.
The Malaysian airline is the eighth carrier to fly the A380 superjumbo. The group CEO, Ahmad Jauharu Yahya, called the aircraft’s inauguration a “proud moment for the entire nation” and “a historic moment”.
Malaysia Airlines has ordered six A380s, four of which are expected to be delivered by the end of this year, the other two during 2013.
Now on the Heathrow link, the aircraft is also expected to be used on services between Kuala Lumpur and Sydney from November. In addition, there are plans to operate the A380 to Tokyo-Narita and/or Beijing, the carrier said.
